Tokoname-Yaki is one of Japan’s “Six Ancient Kilns,” meaning it is a location of the oldest and most significant pottery traditions in the country. Tokoname pots are known for the durability, light weight, and ability to age well, often developing a unique patina over time.
History and Evolution
- Artist: Tosui-Harumatsu
- Technique: High-quality, handmade bonsai pots, particularly shohin sizes.
- Specialization: Often features painted scenes or engraved details, with a "cartoonish charm" to their painting style.
- Generation: The Tosui-Harumatsu line of the Seto region is one of the longest in the modern age of bonsai pottery, and both branches continue to see production today, in a certain way of looking at things.
